BENGALURU: Nvidia has invested in Indian artificial intelligence startup Simplismart as part of a $14 million Series B funding round, backing technology designed to help businesses run AI models more efficiently and reduce computing costs.
The funding round included participation from Nvidia, Accel, Shastra VC and Micromax, with Dallas Venture Capital leading the investment. The deal values the four-year-old startup at approximately $100 million, including the fresh capital.
As demand for artificial intelligence grows, companies are investing heavily in graphics processing units (GPUs) to power AI applications. However, running AI models reliably and cost-effectively at scale remains a major challenge, as businesses must balance processing speed, performance and computing expenses.
Bengaluru-based Simplismart aims to address this challenge through software that automates the deployment and management of AI models, optimising their performance on existing computing infrastructure rather than requiring companies to undertake complex configurations themselves.
“Nobody actually needs the fastest or the cheapest inference,” said Amritanshu Jain, co-founder and chief executive officer of Simplismart, in an interview with TechCrunch. He explained that businesses need AI models to operate at speeds and costs suited to their specific applications.
The startup's platform operates between AI models and the computing infrastructure supporting them. It optimises response times, processing capacity and GPU utilisation, helping businesses extract greater value from their existing computing resources.
Simplismart enables companies to deploy AI models through its platform or within their existing cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Its services also include model fine-tuning, automatic scaling of computing resources in response to changing demand, and performance monitoring.
The company additionally enables cloud service providers to develop and operate their own AI inference services using GPU infrastructure and Simplismart's software.
The startup has reported significant cost savings for some customers. It said its technology helped AI video-generation platform InVideo reduce GPU serving costs by 56 per cent. Its other customers include AI video companies HeyGen and Higgsfield, as well as enterprise AI startup Ema.
Indian cloud service provider Yotta also uses Simplismart's technology to power the serverless AI inference service offered through its Shakti Studio platform.
