Muscat: With the opening of the 6th edition of Infra Oman, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre began its operations.
Infra Oman, the leading infrastructure exhibition in Oman, was inaugurated by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, the Minister of Transport and Communications.
The state-of-the-art convention centre opened its doors to the public for the first time, after a long period of construction.
According to Guy Rogers from Intec, an exhibitor, this is among the finest exhibition centres in the world. “It is beautifully engineered and is essentially Omani-styled,” he said. The three-day event is expected to host more than 5,000 visitors and features more than 200 local and international exhibitors. Infra Oman 2016 will include international exhibitors from countries such as Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya, South Korea, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Infra Oman will also host country pavilions from India, Iran, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The exhibition will focus on construction requirements, green and future buildings, heavy equipment and technologies, hotel and tourism projects, manufacturing, power and water technologies, tools and equipment, transportation and logistics, infrastructure projects such as roads, airports, railways and ports, and other development projects.
Infra Oman will also include companies involved in waste management, power and renewable energy, and fire safety and security.
The exhibition caters to different audiences in the infrastructure industry.
Gulshan, a visitor from a leading engineering firm in Oman, said that he was looking for companies that manufacture physical security systems, so he might become their distributor in Oman.
Most firms in the international pavilion are exhibiting in Oman for the first time and looking for local partners to promote their products and services in the local market.
Paul Robinson from Acumen Mobile said that Oman’s market has a great potential for the safety products they are selling. He further mentioned that Oman has a number of projects that are in development now and present an excellent opportunity for business.
Oman is a potentially profitable destination for innovative products, according to Arthur Rudge, Managing Director at Met Pro UK.
“Oman can prove to be an excellent market for innovative engineered products that are used in the industry, and we manufacture precisely what is required by the market,” he said. The exhibition runs for three days, from 10am- 8pm.
MoU signed
The first day of the exhibition witnessed the signing of an MOU between Dornton, a British architectural firm and First Star, a Saudi firm, thereby joining to promote infrastructural activities
in Oman.
According to Andrew Hammond, Director at First Star, the agreement will help develop the architectural design of projects in Oman.
