Muscat: Following up on the complaints of consumers, more than OMR960,000 were recovered by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) from business establishments for the benefit of consumers in 2015.
Walid bin Ali Al Rawahi, the director of the Complaints Department at PACP, said the authority had retrieved OMR961,973.8 for consumers in 2015.
Of the total amount, OMR560,312.8 was recovered from the automotive and services sector, OMR16,253.6 from the vehicle repair workshops sector, OMR5,022 from the spare parts sector and OMR3,766 from the tyres sector.
The authority also managed to recover OMR24,546.4 from the electrical and electronic appliances sector, OMR134,744.6 from the construction and building materials sector, OMR6,622.26 from the mobile and services sector, and also OMR10,232.76 from the aluminium, blacksmithing and carpentry workshops.
In the furniture stores sector, an amount of OMR13,239 was recovered, from the garments, textiles and services sector OMR3,870 was recovered, and OMR1,934 was retrieved from the jewellery and accessories sector.
In the recruitment sector, an amount of OMR113,753 was recovered, in the travel and tourism sector, OMR20,133 was recovered, in the hair salons and beauty centres sector, the authority recovered OMR13, 611.
Al Rawahi assured the authority’s continuing efforts in carrying out its mission to preserve the rights of consumers in accordance with the applicable legal proceedings in this regard, and said that the consumers can communicate with the authority in the event of any of their rights being violated through any of the various communication channels allocated to the authority.
