Muscat:Comic book, TV and video game fans are looking forward excitedly to the IGN convention which is heading to Muscat in less than two weeks.
The IGN convention gathers all the gaming, film and pop culture community under one roof to preview new and unreleased videos games, take part in tournaments, compete in cosplay competitions and allows people to meet their favorite celebrities.
The convention, which will be on December 9 and 10, 2016, will include video game showcases, virtual reality showcases, retail and artist alleys and tabletop games among many other activities.
“The idea is to create an enthralling world for followers of video games, films and pop culture. IGN conventions have been a perfect mix of local talent and international celebrities with great content and amazing attractions. It is not just for geeks; we have got brilliant entertainment for the entire family,” Abbas Jaffar Ali, Director, IGN Middle East, said.
“Fans will get a chance to meet their favorite celebrities in a fun and entertaining atmosphere. Cosplay enthusiasts will mingle with geeks discussing movies while gamers exercise their thumbs and reflexes. Quite simply, it is an event not to be missed by anyone interested in movies, TV, video games, comics or role-playing,” he added.
The celebrities present will be Kristian Nairn who plays the role of Hodor in the popularfantasy TV show Game of Thrones, Adam Harrington who was the voice actor for Bigby Wolf in the story driven action-adventure ‘The Wolf Among Us’, and David Fennoy who is the voice actor of Lee Everett in ‘The Walking Dead’ video game which is based on the TV show.
Facebook user, “Geeky Zilla” said,“(I am) super excited as it is the first time we are having an event like this in Oman. I cannot wait to see hundreds of Geeks who are just as passionate as you,all gathered in one place.”
“This is exciting since this is the first ever gaming con to be held in my second home. In the Philippines, events like these are very common. Anime and gaming events are held almost every threemonths, especially if there are holidays,”Esh Aquino, another Facebook user said.
“I was a cosplayer before and I was thinking I might go and join the cosplay event, but given the time constraints and the inability to find materials to make a costume, I would probably just "cos-trip" cosplaying, but only as a visitor. Oh, and I am looking forward to seeingHodor too, and probably buying some merchandise,” she added.
Some people hope that this will be an annual event.
“I have waited forever for an event like this, but unfortunately I will be writing my examinations so I will not be able to attend. It hurts more considering my favorite actor from Game of Thrones, Kristian Nairn will be coming. I am hoping this becomes an annual convention so that I can visit next time,” Aniket Dwivedi said.
