Muscat: Mwasalat has transported nearly 3.6 million passengers since the company was launched on November 22, 2015, it was reported on Wednesday.
Officials said 1,500,000 passengers travelled on Ruwi-Mabela route, while 800,000 travelled on the Ruwi-Wadi Kabir route, and the Ruwi-Muttrah- Qasr Al Alam route carried more than 300,000 passengers.
Altogether 3,320,236 passengers travelled on domestic routes within Muscat governorate.
Additionally, the company transported 272,905 passengers in the last year on the intercity lines within various governorates of the Sultanate.
Regarding these figures, Ahmed bin Ali Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of Mwasalat, said, “The company has completed a whole year since the start of operations under its new identity, and currently we are transporting more than 10,000 passengers per weekday and more than 16,000 passengers on Fridays.”
The company’s CEO indicated that Mwasalat, in collaboration with Muscat Municipality, will also provide well-equipped, comfortable waiting stations for its customers in all locations. “Some of them will be ready before the end of this winter. Then the company is working to provide free Wi-Fi service and activate visible screens on buses,” he said.
In strengthening the partnership between the company and all public and private institutions, Mwasalat has started advertising aboard buses to enhance income and reduce government support.
As for the cargo system, Al-Balushi stated that Mwasalat is a passenger transport company whose main objective is to give carry passengers and their personal belongings, where the company carries cargo whenever there are sufficient space onboard the buses. “However, the company is proceeding to the development of its cargo operations to solve all existing obstacles related to shipping, so that the cargo system becomes dependent on the size, weight and distance by the use of electronic systems, specialized and easy to use at an affordable price,” he summed up.
