Muscat: Details of the upcoming Muscat Festival 2016 and an initial study for reviewing a draft model of residential neighbourhoods, were discussed at a Municipal Council meeting held on Monday.
During the meeting, the council voiced their remarks on the statements made by the Muscat Festival Committee, asking them to coordinate with specialists from the Ministry of Health regarding the provision of medical emergency teams at locations where activities are held.
They also stressed that the festival’s entertainment activities must adhere to the Sultanate’s customs, culture and traditional values and suggested that cultural activities must be taken advantage of in order to raise awareness and educate the youth in the correct way of using social media, in addition to preserving the identity and history of Oman, as well as the Islamic values.
Neighbourhoods project
Mohsin Mohammed Al Sheikh, the head of the council, presided over the meeting, and pointed out that the most important aspect of the draft model of residential neighbourhoods project is to reduce the waiting time for low income individuals, who want a plot of land by providing them with adequate and affordable housing.
This highlights the importance of quickening the processes and providing appropriate housing for Omani citizens. The meeting also focused on the programmes broadcast by the Public Authority for Radio and Television, especially while dealing with priority cases regarding government affairs, as well as improving Omani drama programmes by enhancing the scripts to cope with the cultural level of the community.
The council also approved a statement made to inform the Ministry of Health about the importance of continuing to raise awareness about inherited blood disorders, which is being conducted by medical establishments since the individual and society could be subjected to medical dangers, as well as economic difficulties.
Shaded areas The council also approved a statement made regarding the need for creating shaded areas in public parking areas used by public and private sector establishments.
