Muscat Grass Roots, Muscat Football Academy qualify for Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East

Muscat: Volkswagen, represented in Oman by Wattayah Motors, has announced ‘Muscat Grass Roots’ and ‘Muscat Football Academy’ as the winners of the Volkswagen Junior Masters Oman 2016 Under-13 Football Tournament. The two teams will now represent Oman in the Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East 2016 Tournament to be held in the UAE on March 18 and 19, 2016.
The 2016 Volkswagen Junior Masters Oman Tournament, which took place on February 13 at the Rusayl Football Field, consisted of two rounds – a round-robin round followed by the Playoff Rounds. Eight teams took part in the Oman tournament – ‘ALWOSHIL’, ‘Al Jazeera’, ‘Muscat Grass Roots’, ‘Muscat Football Academy’, ‘Professional’, ‘Shinas’, ‘Al Badyah’ and ‘Al Arabi’.
After a day of intense football action it was the Muscat Grass Roots that took top honours at the tournament, with Muscat Football Academy taking the runners-up spot. Both teams have now earned the right to represent Oman in the Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East 2016 Tournament that will take place in Dubai next month.
Commenting on the tournament, Andrew Squires, the General Manager of Wattayah Motors said: “On behalf of Volkswagen and Wattayah Motors I would like to congratulate the Muscat Grass Roots and Muscat Football Academy teams on winning the Volkswagen Junior Masters Oman 2016 Tournament.
"It was a tough fight throughout the tournament but both these teams are truly deserving of their top spot placements. With the terrific show of skill and talent each of their players displayed I am confident they will make Oman proud at the Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East 2016 Tournament.”
Both teams are now prepping themselves up for the upcoming Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East 2016 Tournament, which will be held in Dubai on March 18 and 19. Once there, they will compete against teams from Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi for a chance to be crowned Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East Champions. The winners will then head to Paris in May 2016 to represent the region at the Volkswagen World Junior Masters.
The Volkswagen Junior Masters was established 10 years ago by Volkswagen AG as part of its commitment to support youth and sports around the world. The tournament has since grown to include 4,700 youth players, 333 teams, and 245 dealers in its home country alone. Today, the tournament takes place in 23 countries worldwide. The tournament provides young footballers with a chance to enjoy the sport and compete fairly and has, in the process, become the biggest youth-oriented football tournament in the world.
