Muscat: Students from the Sohar University on Tuesday got the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the proceedings of the ninth regular session of the State Council.
The visit was meant to familiarise the students with the working of the State Council.
Abdullahbin Saif Mohamed Al Sibani, Director of Culture, Information and Tourism Committee, delivered a presentation lecture that highlighted the Council’s role and powers and outlined the stages of the development process of Shura in the Sultanate, built on the foundations of sound and effective democratic practice.
The lecture touched on the special provisions of the State Council, which advocates the membership number, the mechanism for their appointment, terms of membership, and distinguished between the membership and role of the Shura Council and the State Council.
He highlighted the legislative and oversight powers of the Council and the Council’s activities and achievements during the previous periods.
The differences between the State Council and the Shura Council washighlightedwith regard to competencies, members, and the extent of power, in addition to the stages and duration of the passing of the draft law.
The students also learned about the organizational structure of the council and its activities and achievements, stressing that the council always seeks to activate the level of partnership with the local community through lectures, seminars, in addition to the role of the website and the tools of social communication in this regard.
