Muscat: A number of goldsmith scales, commercial scales, bridges scales and truck weight points were verified by the Statistics Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It said that during the fourth quarter of 2106 the verified numbers were 674 compared to 589 weights at the third quarter of 2016.
The Ministry said that it has verified 409 commercial scales, 178 goldsmith scales, 72 truck point scales and 15 bridge scales.
The Ministry affirmed that the enforcement of the calibration and standardisation law is in line with the Ministry's strategy and plans, as well as its pivotal role in facilitating economic growth.
The Directorate General for Standards and Metrology is also in charge of developing a national system for calibration and standardisation and monitoring its application. To this end, the Ministry has developed the regulations that regularise the sector as per the pre-set priorities.
