Muscat: National Ferries Company (NFC) transported 108,628 passengers in the first half of 2017 compared to 99,871 in the same period last year, recording a growth rate of 9 per cent.
Statistics issued by the NFC said that the increase in the first half of 2017 was attributed to the increase in the number of passengers and vehicles during the Eid Al Fitr holiday during which 7,390 passengers travelled on board the ferries along with 1,763 vehicles.
The statistics showed that the growth in vehicle shipments rose to 27,976 during the first half of the current year with a growth rate of 14 per cent compared to 24,640 vehicles in the same period last year.
The cargo volume on board of the ferry fleet by the end of June 2017 reached 5,007 tonnes, according to the data.
