Muscat: Students seeking admissions for the academic year 2017/2018 can modify their options until the specified time on Monday the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) has reminded.
The number of students who amended their desires as of Tuesday stood at 24,766 and the number of new students who registered stood at 110.
HEAC had recently announced that the period for amending the desires at its e-system for the academic year 2017/2018 will expire on Monday at 2.00 pm.
Nada bint Mohammed Al Kiyoumiyah, Assistant Director of HEAC said that students can amend their desires and add new options of the study programmes, which have been published at the announcement on the development of the desire amending stage for the academic year 2017/2018.
Meanwhile, statistics published by the Statistics Department at the HEAC in the Ministry of Higher Education pointed out that the number of students who study at their own cost at the private higher education institutions as of the academic year 2015/2016 stood at 25,896 comprising 36.8 per cent of the total number of students at the higher education institutions that stood at 70,294.
Male students comprised 61.1 per cent while female students represented 38.9 per cent of the total number of students.
The statistics also indicated that most students paying for their own education are studying to get a bachelor degree by 70.4 per cent.
Business administration and commerce disciplines were the first option chosen by 51.3 per cent of the total number of students whereas engineering and technology related fields came second by 15 per cent.
Gulf College received the highest number of these students by 16.1 per cent, followed by Al Buraimi University.
