Muscat: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and The Research Council (TRC) have conducted an introductory workshop to discuss the development of a new digital platform to align academia and the energy industry.
The Ejad (Creation) online channel will serve as a means for both sides to collaborate on research and development opportunities. The workshop was held under the auspices of His Excellency Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG), and was attended by Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Hinai, Secretary General of the TRC, as well as PDO’s Managing Director Raoul Restucci.
It came after the MOG, PDO and TRC ratified the 2017 Oman Energy Industry-Academia R&D Protocol last June in an effort to build a vibrant research ecosystem that can deliver the solutions that the energy industry requires to sustain output through to 2040 and beyond.
Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Hinai, Secretary General of the TRC, said: “This workshop was driven by TRC, PDO and MOG to align academia with the energy sector specifically, and the industrial sector generally. “The introductory session has shed light on the efforts exerted to develop a digital platform where industry, academia, and the government can connect around research and innovation activities as well as provide applied solutions for challenges.”
PDO Managing Director Raoul Restucci said: “PDO has a long history of collaborating with partners and stakeholders on harnessing innovation.
“Establishing means for communication between concerned sectors, such as through the Ejad platform, is crucial to fostering efficient public-private partnerships especially as we adopt more diverse energy solutions.”.
