Muscat: This year’s Zumbathon charity event will be held in association with the Oman Cancer Association (OCA) at Muscat College’s sports hall from 3pm to 6pm.
About 80 per cent of the proceeds from the charity event will be donated to OCA, a non-profit organisation, which works towards spreading cancer awareness in the country.
“It is a ladies-only event for those over the age of 16, and we are expecting about 500 to 700 females, who can experience the Zumba form of exercise at its best at the event. It’s OMR10 per ticket, but we are also accepting donations from individuals for the same,” said Asya al Lamki, a Zumba trainer and co-organiser for the event, along with Natalia Costa.
Last year, Al Lamki and Natalia Costa in conjunction with PDO’s Ras Al Hamra Recreational Club (RAHRCs) fitness group organised a Zumba fundraising event for the cause of diabetes, which raised over OMR6,000 and drew more than 200 female participants.
April’s event is the second Zumbathon charity event conducted by passionate Zumba instructors Jenny Kelly and Laura Nistoroiu, featuring a special guest, Ana Georgescu, a Zumba Education Specialist (ZES) from Romania, in aid of the Oman Cancer Association.
“Our aim is to sell 500 tickets and raise the maximum amount possible in aid of OCA. In order for the event to be successful, everyone needs to help spread the word about the event in their own way. We are seeking the generosity of individuals and local businesses to sponsor this charity event, which will benefit this great association,” Al Lamki added.
“Zumba workouts are a great way to have fun and stay active at the same time, it is a very social thing and you get to network and meet lots of new people, so it is advisable for anyone, who wants to be healthy, to take part in Zumba workouts. There will be a raffle draw at the end of the event with exciting prizes,” Costa added.
