When you think too much about something it is either you love it too much or never have it enough. We usually suppress what we hate and take for granted what is abundant. The funny thing about the mind is that it accumulates what we have been thinking all day. Love, hate, illusion and fact play havoc in us to a point that we confuse all emotions and tie them in a tight knot.
Do you think when you watch television in the night do you really see it? Take my word for it that you don’t but play back the mayhem that took place all day long. When you shift on your seat every two minutes, get something from the kitchen for the tenth time or shout “shhhh” at your family is the proof. Another proof is that when you want the programme you watch to last all night because you don’t want to remember your day.
Take a closer look at this. Most of us do not really want to wake up in the morning. When we do, we linger in the bathroom and take our time dressing up or taking breakfast. In doing so, we try to extend the night well into the day.
The fact that we cannot reverse one single minute that passed make us depressed. We really are afraid of the future since the mind desperate wants to freeze the time. This what it is really about, isn’t it? If we can only stop that space of time so we could reflect more then we might get some answers about ourselves. We know we can’t really do that and the frustration digs deeper in us. We usually find something or someone to unleash our frustrations.
There are many ways we do it. We become rebellious by not doing our duties right, pick a phone to annoy someone or go buy something we can’t afford. The Devil in our mind torments us, supporting the black mood. You are going to tell me that “since you are an expert to this why don’t you give us the solution?”
How can I when I am in the same rocking boat? You can only hope for the weather to calm down when this vessel starts to lurch from side to side. I mean the mental storm that keeps our good senses locked in. Well, don’t rely on me for solution because life is never about smooth sailing though there is one thing we can all do. Instead of brooding about what we want all day it helps to think about what someone else wants for a change. You don’t have to do it the moment you wake up in the morning. Let me give you my own example. A fortnight ago, my uncle wanted me to accompany him on a musical session but I turned him down.
One evening last week, I called him and asked him if I could do it the following day. He was delighted and that evening went so well with me and the following one was a perfect one as well. I like to think that it just made me feel good to accept his request. So you see, you can accommodate someone else in your mind and have no place for the Devil when he comes knocking. I don’t know but it worked well for me and I intend to follow it rigorously every now and then. Perhaps giving yourself a perfect reason to wake up in the morning feeling good is not just about what you are going to do to yourself but who else is there to do it with.
