Muscat: The Royal Opera House (ROHM) will host three performances of the legendary tale of the Trojan War is presented by the Fire of Anatolia, a first-rate theatrical dance company, which has been entertaining millions worldwide with sensational performances.
“Troy, an Anatolian Legend,” is a spectacular production that is not only highly entertaining, but also of historical interest as it enacts a famous war saga, parts of which have been authenticated by archaeological discoveries in the modern era. One of the stars of the show is an eight-metre tall statue of the famous Trojan Horse.

Laden with select warriors, the giant wooden horse was a ‘gift’ which the Greeks left behind when they supposedly sailed away after a 10-year siege of the city of Troy. Assuming the great horse be war booty, the Trojans dragged it through the gates of the City. When darkness fell and the Greek ships had returned to shore, the warriors crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the Greek army, which took the Trojans by surprise and won the war. This gave rise to the well-known saying, “Beware of the Greeks bearing gifts.”
Directed by Mustafa Erdogan, this elaborate production took more than 7,200 hours to create, is performed with players in some 2,000 costumes and utilises 150,000 watts of lighting. The show presents hundreds of colourful folkdance figures and exciting music from the various regions of Turkey as it introduces the world to the fire that arises from the ancient mosaic of love, peace and culture in Anatolia.
Mythical city
The once mythical city of Troy, described in Homer’s famous Iliad and discovered by German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in 1868, is brought to life through a spectacular production involving hundreds of artists and technicians.
