Muscat: Wholesale shops at the Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables will remain open until 4am during Ramadan, the Muscat Municipality has announced.
With the Holy Month approaching, the municipality announced the market’s readiness to comply with the consumers’ demand.
The municipality has been preparing for Ramadan by ensuring that various fruits and vegetables are available in sufficient quantities to meet demand, providing more parking spaces and renovating some of its facilities.
Working hours
The working hours of the market during Ramadan have been extended, the main area for wholesale and wholesale shops will be open from 9pm to 4am, while retail stores will stay open in the morning and evening throughout the week. New entrances and exits have been introduced, in addition to 22 new parking spaces.
The market has confirmed that different types of vegetables and fruits will be available with the increase of direct imports from Jordan, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, South Africa, Egypt, the Philippines and Europe.
Companies started preparations early by increasing the number of shipments. Between May 1 and 7, a total of 307 trucks loaded with 6,140 tonnes of vegetables and fruits reached the market.
The municipality is coordinating with the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to prevent street vendors from displaying goods that do not meet health norms in the market.
