Muscat: A number of filling stations in Oman are considering adding a service charge at fuel pumps, after neighbouring countries introduced a self-service option.
Mahmoud Al Auwfi, CEO of Al Maha Petroluem Products Marketing Company, told the Times of Oman that what’s happening in neighbouring states could be replicated here - but only after a survey of consumers.
Al Auwfi added that the move comes at the right time, although it is not known how customers will react to this change. “Before introducing such a plan, a questionnaire should be conducted to determine how satisfied people will be with the new move.”
He added that some customers will be reluctant to step out of their cars and try the new self-service option - particularly in the summer heat.
Al Auwfi pointed out that there should be both options at fuel stations and a pump attendant should be on hand to collect the money from those who fill their own tanks.
Starting from June 30, having one's vehicle filled by a pump worker at 40 Adnoc gas stations across Abu Dhabi will cost customer's an additional DH10.
Elderly drivers and persons with disabilities will not be required to pay the fee, Adnoc Distribution announced.
Regarding use of the self-serve option, the company is offering motorists training on to how to use the pumps.
