Muscat: The Omani athletics Paralympics team left for Jakarta to take part in the Para Games Asia on Monday.
A statement by the Omani Paralympics committee said, "Our athletics team will travel from the Sultanate to Indonesia in order to take part in Para Games Asia."
The athletics teams are comprised of five men and four women, as well as coaches, a physical therapist, and officials including Dr. Mansoor al Touqi, head of the Omani Paralympics committee.
The team will take part in 2018 Para Games Asia in Jakarta October 6 and 13, a statement by the organizers said.
This comes as Indonesia grieves for the hundreds of deaths confirmed by a recent tsunami that rocked Dongalla and Palu.
A statement by event organisers said, "The Chairman of the Indonesia Asian Para Games Organising Committee (INAPGOC) expressed the deepest condolences to the victims and residents affected by the natural disaster."
A moment of silence will be held at the opening of the games on October 6.
