MUSCAT: West Asia fifth karate championship for men and women and the second for youth were conducted on Friday and Saturday by the Sharjah Club For Self Defence Sports in cooperation with Emirate Karate Federation.
It was hosted at Sharjah Sports Club hall .
Around 230 players from 10 countries, including the UAE , Kuwait, KSA, Syria, the State of Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan and Bahrain took part in the event.
The Sultanate sent a team of referees consisting of Ahmed Said Al Zakawani, Salim Darwish Al Qutaiti, Yousef Musallam Al Siyabi and Hilal Mohammed Al Abdali.
This Karate championship is considered as the biggest one in its history in terms of the number of players and participant countries.
It may be mentioned that the Omani Karate Committee is keen on developing karate sports in the domain of refereeing through the active participation of referees in courses outside the Sultanate conducted by the World Karate Federation, Asian Federation, West Asia & the Arab Karate Federation.
These participations also raises the Sultanate’s flag in all international events and represent the Sultanate in all sports events.
