Muscat: A company in Muscat received a penal order from the Public Prosecution and was forced to pay fines after the company violated Omani consumer protection laws, according to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection.
The company had sent messages claiming to replace household products with new ones from the store. “After investigating the claim, it was shown that the establishment had promoted products without prior permits, and that the company did not offer the same products that it had claimed to provide through its advertisement. This violates Article 31 of the Consumer Protection Law 66/2014 and its executive list,” a statement by the PACP read.
The statement by the PACP, added: “The commercial fraud department at the authority checked the credibility of offers and discounts made during the period, which showed that one advertisement by this company was sent to consumers via SMS. The message claimed that some household items could be replaced for new products at the company.
The statement from PACP also read: “When the case files were completed, they were transferred to the Public Prosecution in Muscat, which investigated the two orders for fines sent to the company. The PACP would like to stress the importance of following consumer protection laws to all establishments in the Sultanate in order to avoid legal repercussions.”
