Oman Transport Minister visits roads affected by floods

Muscat: The Minister of Transport and Communication, Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi, on Monday inspected areas affected by heavy rains and floods and took stock of rehablitation and repair efforts.

Since Friday, the governorates of Northern and Southern Sharqiyah have witnessed flash floods and heavy rains as a result of a low pressure system that is expected to end on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Ministry said, “His Excellency Dr Ahmed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communication, has visited some roads in the governorates of Southern and Northern Sharqiyah that were affected by the weather condition.”

Also present was the undersecretary and a number of specialists from the Ministry. "The officials were following up on existing efforts to maintain and renovate the roads in order to resume traffic,” the statement said.

"His Excellency also inspected damage that occurred on the road leading to wilayat Wadi Bani Khalid, especially in the Aqaba area, and directed the specialists to develop durable solutions to the issue," the Ministry added.

Additionally, the Minister met with a number of citizens during the visit and listened to their demands and observations regarding the affected roads in the wilayat.
