Ministry calls on people to sight Eid moon in Oman

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has asked the public to monitor the moon on Tuesday evening, which will help determine when the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be.

In a statement, the ministry said, "We call on the citizens and residents to monitor the sighing of the crescent for the month of Shawal for this year, on Tuesday night the 29 of Ramadan A H 1440 corresponding to June 4, 2019."

If the Eid moon is sighted, the ministry has requested the public to contact the Wali offices, judicial authorities or to contact the ministry directly at - 24644037, 24644070, 24644015, 24644004, 24694400.

The first day of Eid Al Fitr falls on the first day of the month of Shawal. This year it will either be Wednesday, June 5 or Thursday, June 6.
