Muscat: The Royal Oman Police have arrested a citizen accused of selling firecrackers, in Nothern Al Batinah.
The suspect was arrested with hundreds of different types of firecrackers.
In a statement online, the police said," The Suwaiq police station led by the Northern Batinah Police command arrested a citizen on charges of trafficking in explosives (firecrackers). Legal proceedings have been taken against him."
The ROP has called on the public not to circulate and use firecrackers because of their negative effects on public safety.
Last week, the Royal Oman Police announced it was tightening control over all customs outlets to prevent any attempt to smuggle firecrackers into the Sultanate and said that they will prosecute smugglers, by referring them to public prosecution.
