Muscat: This year on Wednesday 18 May, Bait al Zubair celebrates International Museums Day by opening their doors to the public for free. Open from 9.30am to 6.00pm, Bait al Zubair will be part of a growing number of museums worldwide which celebrate their role in enriching society and supporting intercultural dialogue across the world.
The theme of 2016 International Museum Day will be Museums and Cultural Landscapes, which is also the theme of the General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), to be held in Milan, Italy from 3 to 9 July 2016.
The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
Participation in International Museum Day is growing among museums all over the world. In 2015, more than 35,000 museums participated in the event in some 145 countries.
Bait al Zubair welcomes all visitors both past and new on this day and hopes that people enjoy exploring and learning more about the wonderful culture, heritage and arts which Oman has to offer.
