Oman committed to protecting biodiversity and natural life

Muscat: The Sultanate reaffirmed that it is relentlessly working to achieve the objectives of sustainable development in the field of protection of natural resources by preserving biodiversity and natural life. 

Oman is also conducting a number of field research and studies for management of different species.

The Sultanate’s representative spoke during the participation at the UN Conference on biodiversity held in pursuant to the decision No. 47/562 of the 75th meeting of the UN General Assembly held via videoconferencing this year.

The UN Conference on Biodiversity aimed to shed light on the need for taking actions to put in place an international framework for biodiversity for the period beyond 2020.

Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Head of Environment Authority represented the Sultanate at the conference who pointed to the country’s efforts on development and management of natural sanctuaries in partnership with the local communities and civil establishments and the private sector.

He also spoke on Oman Vision 2040 which he said focused among other aspects on preservation of environment and natural resources as the priorities of the Government of Oman to achieve the objectives of sustainable development.
