New York: The Sultanate has integrated the sustainable development goals (SDGs) into development strategies, and allocated funds for their implementation in the medium and long terms, as part of a major component of Oman Vision 2040.
Sayyid Ahmed bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Economic Affairs Officer at the Sultanate’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York, said that the Sultanate has formed a high-profile national committee to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
He pointed out that the committee includes members from relevant ministries and government agencies, the Council of Oman, representatives of the private sector and NGOs.
He further added that the Sultanate provided the opportunity for all segments of society to participate in setting their priorities and future aspirations when preparing the vision document (Oman 2040).
Al Busaidi, in a speech via videoconferencing before the Second Committee of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, said that it has established an integrated system for monitoring and evaluating the indicators of the SDGs and a methodology for measuring progress in achieving those goals.
Al Busaidi highlighted the Sultanate’s efforts to fulfill its obligations to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, referring to the voluntary national review it presented during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) held last year.
He touched on the most prominent achievements made by the Sultanate in implementing the sustainable development plan.
Al Busaidi concluded his speech by affirming the Sultanate’s commitment to support the efforts of the United Nations, as well as its continuous support for the work of this committee to successfully achieve its goals.
