Muscat: The second batch of the Pfizer-BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine arrived in the Sultanate on Saturday night.
A statement issued online by the Oman News Agency, (ONA), said: "The second batch of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine arrived in the Sultanate this evening, via Muscat International Airport, and contains 17,550 doses.”
"The Ministry of Health will begin vaccination on Sunday with the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine for those who received the first dose of the target groups in the first phase of the national campaign for immunization against Covid-19.”
Pharmacist Khalid bin Ali Al Farsi, in charge of the vaccines stores at the Ministry of Health, indicated in a statement to Oman News Agency that the distribution process had been completed upon of its arrival at predetermined centers across the Sultanate's governorates.
It is reported that the total number of those who received the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine was 24,773, with a coverage rate among the target groups of 98 per cent, while the number of those who received the second dose of the same vaccine reached 12,272 people, with a coverage rate of the target groups of 46 per cent.
