OECD meeting focuses on fighting corruption

Muscat: The State Audit Institution (SAI) is participating in the Global Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum, which kicked off through video conferencing from Paris, France on Tuesday.

The three-day forum, organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), focuses on integrity and fighting corruption for a more resilient recovery for the post-COVID future.

The forum received a broad international participation from SAIs, specialised government entities, civil institutions and specialists.

The forum began with an opening plenary with welcoming remarks by OECD Secretary-General and high-level keynote video addresses by leaders, such as; President of the Republic of Chile, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand and a number of ministers and CEOs of specialised organisations and companies, followed by the opening panel “Young leaders building back with integrity.”

During the first day of the forum, five sessions discussed key topics related to integrity in a number of sectors amid the pandemic of COVID-19.

The participants discussed a toolkit that has been developed and tested by OECD governments and selected partners. This toolkit collects all digital tools and resources to help policy makers and practitioners manage daily governance challenges.

Besides, they reviewed and analysed the effectiveness, both in law and in practice, of national whistleblower frameworks around the world. New measures were also discussed to identify good practices that could help promote an open organisational culture, enable effective whistleblower protection, and act as game changers for reporting misconduct after the crisis.

The agenda of the forum during the following days covers several interactive and in parallel sessions, which are carried out in conjunction with specialised organisations and academics.

A number of topics will be highlighted, mainly; integrity and corruption risks during and beyond COVID-19, business integrity trends and standards, public integrity indicators, accountability, measuring fraud and loss amid the pandemic, the use of artificial intelligence, as well as demonstrating a number of international experiences in the field of integrity promotion and combating corruption.

OECD is an international organisation founded in 1961 with its headquarter in France. OECD aims to provide consultancy on economic and social aspects through working with governments, policy makers and citizens in order to set international standards and find solutions for social, economic and environmental challenges.

The OECD has organised this forum with the purpose of exchanging knowledge and expertise, as well as sharing best practices in the field.
