Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the maintenance of more than 60 falajs in the various wilayats of the governorate of South Al Batinah which were damaged by Cyclone Shaheen.
A statement issued online by ONA said that the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of South Al Batinah continues to maintain 66 falajs across the governorate that were damaged by the past climatic conditions (Cyclone Shaheen) at a total cost of OMR 582,324.
Eng. Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Esayi, Director of the Water Resources Department at the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of South Al-Batinah, said: “The directorate continues to maintain 39 falajs in the Wilayat of Rustaq, 20 falajs in the Wilayat of Al-Awabi, 6 falajs in the Wilayat of Nakhl and one falaj in the Wilayat of Wadi Al-Ma’awil.“
He continued: ”A number of auxiliary wells have also been maintained for the damaged aflaj, distributed as follows: a well in the Wilayat of Rustaq and 5 wells in the Wilayat of Al-Awabi, at a total cost of OMR 36,668.”
Additionally, he said that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has assigned a project to dig an auxiliary well for Falaj (Al-Ghor) in the Wilayat of Rustaq during the past year, at a cost of more than OMR 18,000. Maintenance works have also been assigned for an auxiliary well for Falaj (Al-Abtri) in Al-Abyad in the Wilayat of Barka, with a value of 167,062 OMR. It is one of the development projects established within the previous plans.
Al-Esayi added that the Water Resources Department is preparing lists for the maintenance of falajs in a number of wilayats in the Al Batinah South Governorate for the year 2023.
He explained that the Water Resources Department of the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of South Al Batinah has developed an action plan of studying investment sites for Oman Vision 2040 projects, as well as the extent of water availability in these sites, allowing them to dig wells that contribute to the establishment of these projects, as well as preparing advisory studies to select sites for the establishment of these projects.
Al-Esayi also confirmed the preparation of advisory studies to select sites for the construction of dams in different locations in the governorate’s wilayats, in addition to the maintenance of the governorate’s dams according to the Ministry’s plan and available financial capabilities.
