The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said.
As many as 900 decision-makers and representatives of more than 200 telecom and technology companies from 70 countries are taking part in the event, which kicked off at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.
The event spotlights Salalah's rapid development as a major connectivity hub in the Middle East, driven by its strategic geographical location and Omantel’s ongoing investments in cutting-edge technology infrastructure.
A key highlight is the inauguration of the “SN1 Carrier Neutral Data Centre”, which will play a major role in positioning Salalah as a digital bridge between Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe.
Ghassan bin Khamis Al Hashar, Chief Financial Officer at Omantel, said that the conference is an opportunity to highlight the great achievements made by the company in wholesale business, notably those taking place in the city of Salalah, which will become the second most connected city by submarine cables in the region during the coming year.
Al Hashar pointed out that the company’s strategy is based on investments in subsea cables, neutral data centers, partnerships with leading service providers and attraction of foreign direct investments in the technology sector.
For his part, Eng. Yasser Al Lawati, Director of Marketing & Domestic at ZOI, said that the meeting constitutes a valuable opportunity to contribute to the development of the telecommunications sector worldwide. “Through its participation in this meeting, ZOI affirms its continuous efforts to reshape the international wholesale scene,” Al Lawati added.
The first day of the conference included two specialized sessions. The first, run by Google, focused focus on how the global Internet works from the perspective of submarine cable technology and its impact on global communication.
The second session, run by Amazon, dealt with cloud computing services and artificial intelligence (AI).
The event, which aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, highlights the Sultanate’s aspiration to become a global leader in telecommunications technology and digital infrastructure.
