Muscat: The Education, Research, and Innovation Committee of the Shura Council convened a meeting on Monday with experts from the Ministry of Education, specifically from the Directorate of Career Guidance and Student Counseling.
The meeting focused on addressing behavioural issues among school students and exploring potential solutions, reflecting the committee’s commitment to overseeing all educational and pedagogical aspects in Omani schools.
Jamal Ahmed Al-Abri, Chairman of the Committee, welcomed the ministry representatives, emphasising the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance the educational sector in Oman and address the challenges faced by educational institutions.
The ministry experts presented a comprehensive visual presentation detailing the general principles of the curriculum, policies, and regulations governing the ministry’s operations.
They highlighted the ministry’s efforts in promoting national values and incorporating them into school curricula. Additionally, they discussed the role of religious education and cultural visits in reinforcing national and religious principles among students.
The presentation also covered the projects and activities of the Citizenship Directorate, operating under the Directorate of Curriculum Development. The discussion included the directorate’s administrative structure, foundational pillars, strategic goals, community partnerships, and future vision.
Furthermore, the educational activities supervised by the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center were highlighted. A significant portion of the discussion focused on the role of the Directorate for Islamic Education Curriculum Development in instilling moral values and reinforcing citizenship principles among students. The committee reviewed the directorate’s objectives, its various epartments, and its contributions to enhancing Islamic education curricula.
The presentation showcased how ethical values are integrated into the Islamic education curricula across different grade levels. The Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center’s role in addressing behavioural issues in schools was also emphasised.
The experts elaborated on modern technologies employed to manage negative behaviours and the contributions of social workers in public schools to these efforts. The committee members listened to the ministry experts’ observations on emerging negative behavioural trends in schools, proposed solutions, and the entities that need to be engaged for effective coordination.
The ministry’s future plans to address these issues were also discussed. This meeting underscores the committee’s dedication to collaborating with key stakeholders to foster a positive educational environment and address pressing challenges in the educational sector.
