Video game development camp launched as part of 'Makeen' initiative
Seeb: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology on Sunday launched a video game development camp in collaboration with Al Nahdha Training Institute and the global company Unity.
The event is part of the "Makeen" initiative, which aims to empower Omani competencies in modern digital fields.
The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology.
Jalila Abdullah Al Fanna Al Arimi, Director of the Future Skills Development Department at the Ministry, stated in her speech during the launch ceremony that the camp targets 50 unemployed participants with talent in game development. It offers two specialized tracks: programming and animation design.
She added that the program runs for 24 weeks, combining theoretical and practical aspects under the supervision of certified trainers and local and international experts. It also provides hands-on training opportunities within technological incubators and allows participants to work on their own digital game projects, paving the way for the establishment of startups capable of competing in this vital sector.
Al Arimi explained that this initiative is part of the investment in national digital competencies, opening up new horizons for Omani youth to actively participate in the digital games industry, which is considered one of the world's most promising sectors.
She confirmed that the collaboration with Unity, a global leader in game engine and interactive technology development, is the first of its kind in Oman.
This strategic partnership will contribute to transferring global knowledge and expertise to the participants, especially since Unity's technologies are used in over 50 percent of digital games worldwide.
For his part, Sheikh Humaid Jumaa Al Shamsi, a member of the Shura Council representing the Wilayat of Al Buraimi and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Nahdha Training Institute, stated that this qualitative initiative is part of efforts to empower Omani youth with modern digital skills, which have become fundamental pillars of advanced global economies.
He added that the e-games industry is no longer just entertainment but an integrated knowledge-based industry that combines programming, design, artificial intelligence, and artistic creativity.
He noted that this camp serves as a practical platform that qualifies Omani youth to engage in this promising global sector.
