'Akhdar' campaign launched to promote awareness of sustainable economy, green jobs

Sur: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Centre for Professional Guidance and Student Counselling, has launched the Akhdar (Green) campaign in the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah. The campaign comes within the framework of preparing a generation that is aware of future career paths and linking them to the green economy, sustainable development, and the requirements of the Omani labour market.

The campaign targets 2,200 participants from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, including 1,100 career guidance specialists and 1,100 students from grades 9 to 11.

The campaign focuses on raising youth awareness of emerging professional opportunities in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and natural resource management, in addition to enabling specialists to support students in making academic and professional decisions that align with the needs of the national labour market.

The training program was launched from the Governorate South A’Sharqiyah over two days. The first day was dedicated to career guidance specialists, while the second day focuses on students through interactive sessions and practical activities that introduce them to the concepts of the green economy and the future jobs associated with it.

The "Akhdar" campaign is being implemented in two phases. The first phase will include six governorates during the first academic semester, while the second phase will extend to cover five other governorates in the second academic semester. This is part of a national plan aimed at preparing a generation proficient in the tools of the green economy, capable of linking their specializations to available opportunities, and contributing to enhancing the national employment system and diversifying the Omani economy based on the foundations of sustainable development.

It is worth noting that the "Akhdar" campaign comes in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Authority for Public Services Regulation, and in partnership with the Oman Power and Oman Energy Association (OPAL), SOHAR Port and Freezone.
