
Muscat: The board of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) on Sunday held its first meeting during Academic Year 2025/2026 under the auspices of Dr. Mahad Said Ba'awin, Minister of Labour, Chairman of the UTAS Board.
During the meeting, UTAS Board reviewed a follow-up report on the implementation of decisions made during the previous meeting and endorsed the university's second strategic plan (2026–2030).
The board stressed the need to direct all academic, technical and administrative staff to stick to the strategic plan and implement it in accordance with its specific time-frames.
The board also approved the progress made in structuring the university’s policies and procedures after the formation of a specialized working group tasked to review the approved and proposed policies and verify the compliance of the same with standard institutional accreditation requirements.
The group prepared a proposal for emergency policies for the current and future stages, with emphasis on developing additional policies whenever the need arises.
The board reviewed the regulations set for filling teaching staff vacancies at the UTAS in accordance with the terms in force at Sultan Qaboos University.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the board approved the awarding of academic degrees to UTAS students who successfully completed graduation requirements for the spring and summer semesters of the academic year 2024/2025 (a total of 6,491 students).
The meeting was attended by Dr. Said Hamad Al Rubai'e, Vice-Chancellor of the UTAS, Deputy Chairman of UTAS Academic Board, and representatives of the public and private sectors.
