
Manama-- The GCC Supreme Council, in the communiqué of its 46th session held in Manama, Bahrain today, commended the Sultanate of Oman’s pivotal announcement on 6 May 2025 of securing a ceasefire between the United States of America (USA) and Ansar Allah.
The GCC Council specifically hailed Oman’s instrumental diplomatic efforts, undertaken to safeguard international maritime navigation and trade, and its successful role in securing the release of detained crew members from the vessel "Galaxy".
The GCC Council underscored the critical imperative of maintaining maritime security and the safety of vital sea lanes. It called for a firm response to any activities that threaten regional and global stability, including attacks on commercial shipping and the disruption of international maritime routes and commerce. The communique reaffirmed the necessity of upholding the right to freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, particularly the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Furthermore, the GCC Supreme Council hailed the Sultanate of Oman for its successful hosting of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat on 16–17 February 2025. The event, held under the theme “Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership,” was recognized as a significant contribution to fostering regional cooperation.
The GCC Council also took note of the insights presented by its Advisory Board regarding previously assigned studies. These studies encompass key areas of collective interest, including strategies for confronting natural disasters, the development of unified policies and legislation for artificial intelligence adoption and addressing obstacles to greater integration of services among the GCC member states.
