Aberdeen Sailing Ship Racing Association wins 13th Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award

Muscat: The Aberdeen Sailing Ship Racing Association has been crowned the winner of the 13th edition of the Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award.

The award was presented during a ceremony organized by the Royal Navy of Oman this evening at Al Mirani Fort in Muscat Governorate, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences.

His Highness the patron of the event, along with the attendees, watched a visual presentation showcasing the journey of the Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award, in addition to a film about the 2025 International Sailing Program.

Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, delivered a speech in which he stated: “The relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the sea is a deeply rooted historical one. It is not merely geographical, but a civilization that rose, expanded, and dominated, sending its ships across all seas and oceans, east and west. It established trade and navigation routes and went beyond that to spread Omani civilization, identity, and values. It formed a powerful cultural force and a formidable naval fleet, making Oman a civilizational, cultural, and economic hub connecting the Arabian Peninsula to the world via the sea for centuries and continuing to this day.”

James George, representative of the International Sailing Federation, noted that the award serves as a significant incentive for those interested in sailing and its training.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, His Highness the Assistant Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences presented the Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award for this year to the Aberdeen Sailing Ship Racing Association, in recognition of its contributions to the field of sailing.

On this occasion, an accompanying exhibition was held, showcasing the achievements of the first and second "Shabab Oman" ships and their outstanding national contributions.
