Muscat-- His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic have affirmed their commitment to continue developing the strategic partnership, supporting bilateral relations, and expanding cooperation in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries.
This was stated in the joint communique issued today on the occasion of the Italian Prime Minister’s visit to the Sultanate of Oman. It reads as follows:
“Within the context of the historical relations and strong ties that bind the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Republic, and upon the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
During the visit, the two sides held official talks that discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation to serve the common interests of the two countries, reaffirming their commitment to continue developing the strategic partnership.
The two sides affirmed their keenness to enhance cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, and industry, encourage partnerships between the public and private sectors, and activate the role of joint committees in a way that contributes to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries. They also agreed to prepare an action plan (2026-2030) to serve as a framework for following up on the implementation of signed memoranda of understanding and agreements, and to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The two sides lauded the level of existing cooperation in the fields of culture, heritage, university education, and research, and affirmed the importance of continuing to develop exchange between the two countries in these sectors.
The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and affirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability, and settling disputes by peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law.
The Italian Prime Minister commended the pivotal role undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman in advocating dialogue and promoting regional peace, while His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed his appreciation for the role of the Italian Republic in supporting dialogue paths, peaceful solutions, and constructive interaction.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Italian Prime Minister expressed her thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality.”
