Shura Council Office reviews job stability and security of Omanis

Muscat: The Shura Council Office reviewed during its meeting on Wednesday the agenda for the upcoming regular sessions of the Council scheduled for next February, and the joint session with the State Council.

This is to discuss the articles of dispute in a number of draft laws referred by the government, within the framework of both Councils’ keenness to enhance and refine the legislative structure to ensure sustainable development across various sectors.

The Shura Council Office reviewed a request submitted by a number of citizens concerning employment contracts of Omani employees that affect their job stability. The request called for reviewing the matter and taking appropriate measures to safeguard the rights of Omani citizens and enhance job security.

This took place during the Office’s eighth regular meeting for the third ordinary session of the tenth term (2023-2027), which was held under the chair of Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Council.

The meeting reviewed a set of ministerial responses to a number of follow-up instruments submitted by the members of the Council.

These included a response from the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology to a briefing request regarding the construction of tunnels linking the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, in which the Ministry affirmed its continued efforts to develop infrastructure and proceed with the implementation of road projects.

The office also reviewed the response of the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning to a briefing request concerning planning aspects related to the location of one of the projects.

In addition, the Office examined the response of the Minister of Health to a briefing request regarding preventive measures to limit the spread of seasonal viruses.

Furthermore, it reviewed the response of the Minister of Education to the report of the Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee concerning the employment of graduates in the field of Information Technology. The response of the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to a briefing request regarding procedures undertaken to examine the dominance of certain companies in the delivery sector was also reviewed.

It also examined the response of the Minister of Labour to a question regarding the Omanisation of the position of institute director in private training institutions, which included the ministerial decisions issued in this regard.

In addition, it reviewed the response concerning the implementation of the unified academic salary scale, noting that the Ministry is currently studying and reviewing the matter.

The office further examined the response of the Minister of Information to a briefing request concerning the absence of effective legal frameworks regulating social media platforms.

The response indicated that the matter requires legislative intervention, and that the Ministry is coordinating with the relevant authorities to establish an appropriate legal framework to regulate content on social media platforms.
