
Khasab: Traditional boat race competitions kicked off on Monday evening at Khor Qadi in the Wilayat of Khasab, as part of the main activities of the “Winter Musandam” season, under the patronage of Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam.
Hamad bin Ibrahim Al-Shehhi, Director of Khasab Municipality and member of the Events and Programs Committee for the 'Winter Musandam' season, said the race saw wide participation from local teams amid an enthusiastic atmosphere and strong competition.
He noted that this reflects the deep-rooted passion of the people of the governorate for marine sports and their close connection to their longstanding maritime heritage.
He added that the race aims to revive Omani maritime traditions and promote the sport of traditional rowing, while also highlighting the stunning fjords and coastlines of Musandam Governorate, which represent a distinctive tourism and sporting destination.
At the conclusion of the race, the Governor of Musandam honoured the winners and members of the judging committee.
The organising committee affirmed that such events help strengthen community cohesion, reinforce pride in Oman’s authentic maritime identity, support tourism and showcase the cultural and natural assets of the governorate.
The traditional boat race is among the most prominent events of the Musandam winter season, which continues to attract visitors from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman to experience the governorate’s natural beauty and rich heritage.
