Oman, India discuss strategic partnership, regional maritime security

Muscat: Oman and India have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership, with a focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, logistics and emerging technologies, while also discussing regional developments affecting maritime security and global trade.

The discussions took place in Muscat on Friday as Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman's   Foreign Minister, received Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India's Minister of External Affairs.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed the longstanding historical ties between Oman and India and explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. They highlighted opportunities to boost collaboration between businesses in both countries and encourage high-quality partnerships and mutual investments that support shared economic interests and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation affecting ship traffic and maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and its implications for international trade, energy supplies and global supply chains.

Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination and consultations on these developments, supporting efforts to enhance dialogue and cooperation with all parties, and reducing regional tensions in line with international law while safeguarding the interests of countries in the region.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Ambassador-at-Large at Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al Maskari, Head of the GCC and Regional Neighbourhood Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Prashant Pise, Ambassador-designate of India to the Sultanate of Oman.
