More than 8.2 million mobile phone subscribers by end of May 2026

Muscat: The total number of mobile phone service subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman rose to 8,246,003 by the end of May 2026, registering a growth of 1.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2025, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data showed a slight growth in active postpaid mobile phone subscriptions by 5.3 percent, recording 1,305,759 subscriptions, while prepaid subscriptions stabilised at 5,242,015 subscriptions.

Internet of Things (machine-to-machine) service subscriptions continued their growth, registering an increase of 9.2 percent to record 1,698,229 subscriptions by the end of May 2026.

In the internet services sector, the total number of active mobile broadband internet subscriptions rose to 5,489,728, while the total number of active fixed broadband internet subscriptions reached 590,500.

On the front of fixed internet technologies, fiber optic technology subscriptions for homes and establishments continued their growth, registering an increase of 6.9 percent to reach 362,618 subscriptions by the end of May 2026, while the number of fixed 5G subscriptions reached 210,337 subscriptions.

In contrast, satellite subscriptions recorded the highest growth rate among fixed internet technologies, as they rose by 145.5 percent to reach 1,603 subscriptions.

Regarding other technologies, fixed 4G subscriptions continued to register a decline of 69 percent, recording 6,102 subscriptions, while Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service subscriptions decreased by 22.8 percent to reach 9,114 subscriptions.

Likewise, other subscriptions (which include internet over power lines, Ethernet, and internet leased lines) decreased by 6.1 percent, recording 726 subscriptions by the end of May 2026, compared to the same period last year.
