Oman reaffirms commitment to UNICEF, global efforts to protect children

New York— The Sultanate of Oman affirmed its commitment to continued cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and international partners in support of efforts to build a more just, sustainable and equitable future for every child.

This was stated by His Excellency Ambassador Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, during a statement delivered at the second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2026, held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Oman expressed its appreciation to the Republic of Estonia for its presidency of the UNICEF Executive Board in 2026, as well as to the UNICEF Executive Director. It also commended UNICEF staff for their efforts to protect children’s rights and promote their well-being, particularly amid growing humanitarian and development challenges.

Oman noted that the current session holds particular significance as it is the final session in which the Sultanate participates as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board and as Vice-President of the Board representing the Asia-Pacific Group for 2026.

The Sultanate expressed pride in the confidence placed in it by member states and highlighted the opportunity its membership provided to contribute to strengthening consensus and constructive dialogue on issues concerning children.
