Muscat: The Research and Innovation Authority has allocated OMR2.2 million in institutional funding for 467 research proposals submitted under the 2026 research cycle of its competency-based institutional funding programme.
The programme attracted broad participation from 28 higher education and research institutions, with funding approved for 127 doctoral research proposals, 162 graduate research proposals and 178 undergraduate student research proposals.
The funded proposals cover a wide range of research fields, including education and human resources, environmental and biological resources, information and communication technology, health and social services, energy and industry, culture and humanities, basic sciences, and urban planning.
The Authority said the growing participation reflects the important role of the competency-based institutional funding programme in developing national research capabilities and supporting research projects with scientific, economic and social value.
The programme also contributes to aligning research activities with national priorities and supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
