Muscat: The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) will host the 4th International Conference on Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology Applications, which will kick off on 12 October.
The 5-day event serves as an international scientific platform that will bring together researchers, academics, graduate students, early-career researchers and specialists in the fields of microbial ecology, biotechnology and related applications.
Twelve speakers from international universities and scientific institutions will give lectures on topics like microbial ecology, the microbiome and biotechnology.
The conference sees the participation of researchers representing 28 countries across the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, Europe, and other regions. The scientific programme of the conference features 159 contributions, consisting of 41 oral presentations and 118 scientific posters.
This year, the conference gains added momentum through the launch of the Middle-Eastern Society of Microbial Ecologists (MEsME), the participation of the Society for Applied Microbiology.
The conference aims to foster international and regional scientific cooperation among academic and research institutions specialised in microbiology and its biotechnological applications. It also seeks to review the latest research findings, developments and scientific innovations in environmental microbiology and its applications in biotechnology across the environmental, agricultural and industrial sectors.
The event also seeks to highlight the distinctive potential of the Middle East’s unique environments—including desert and marine ecosystems as well as hot springs—and to encourage their utilisation in innovative research and applications.
