MUSCAT: Air India Express will shift its existing flights from Oman to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from January 2027 as part of a phased transition of the airline's West Asia operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to the new airport.
The move is part of a broader plan to facilitate the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Mumbai's existing international airport.
Air India Group will progressively transfer Air India Express services connecting Mumbai with Muscat, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha and Sharjah to NMIA. The transition is expected to be completed by the IATA Northern Summer 2027 season.
The airline will begin operating four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December 2026, followed by planned services to Kuwait, subject to the requisite approvals, and existing services to Oman from January 2027.
The phased transition follows continued coordination with the airport operator and forms part of a wider programme involving domestic and international airlines to support the redevelopment of CSMIA Terminal 1.
The move is also intended to strengthen Mumbai's dual-airport system while allowing Air India Group to continue serving the market efficiently and preserve the historicity of its existing operating slots at CSMIA.
Operating from both CSMIA and NMIA is expected to improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, offer travellers greater choice and convenience, and support the continued expansion of aviation infrastructure in the region.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited welcomed Air India Group's plans to commence operations from NMIA.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed with advanced technology, multimodal connectivity and scalable infrastructure to accommodate the region's future aviation growth and provide travellers with a seamless travel experience.
