Muscat: Muscat Municipality, represented by the Directorate General of Projects and Afforestation, is implementing a development and beautification project for the Souq Al-Mal neighborhood (Business District) in Ruwi in the Wilayat of Muttrah. The project aims to revitalize the area economically and socially, improve the urban landscape, and enhance its commercial and tourism appeal, thereby contributing to a better quality of life for residents and visitors.
Eng. Basma Salim Al-Yousufi, the project engineer at Muscat Municipality, stated that the project's completion rate has reached 40 percent.
In a statement to Oman News Agency, she said the project spans an area exceeding 290,000 square metres and includes integrated afforestation and beautification works. These comprise the planting of more than 260 trees and the installation and replacement of over 290 street lighting units, along with the development of pavements and interlock works.
She added that the project includes the construction of a two-kilometre walkway, a dedicated running and cycling track, and a pedestrian bridge linking both banks of the wadi. It also provides seating areas and public and service facilities, including outdoor retail kiosk and restrooms, as well as a children's play area, creating an integrated urban environment that supports sports and recreational activities.
The project is being implemented as part of Muscat Municipality's efforts to develop urban areas, upgrade infrastructure and public facilities, and transform commercial districts into vibrant destinations that combine economic activity with aesthetic and recreational elements. This aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in improving quality of life and enhancing urban sustainability.
