Spring brought to life by ‘Muscat Singers’ in concert

Muscat: Muscat Singers on Saturday night presented its Spring Concert was a colourful presentation of folk songs from around the world, performed under the direction of Dr Michael Buck at the Bosch Centre for the Performing Arts, TAISM (The American International School, Muscat).
The concert opened with the rhythmic beat of Conga drums and as a 50-voice choir sang the rousing Tumekuja Kuimba in Swahili. This was followed by a traditional Shaker song, The Gift to Be Simple, a coal miner’s work song Sixteen Tons, and the African-American spiritual Soon-Ah Will Be Done.
The second section opened with Rosemary, a parlour song by Frank Bridge. Shenandoah, the famous American folk song came next followed by Loch Lomond and then the exciting piece, an Indian raga Dwijavanthi.
To complete this section was the Brazilian Salmo 150 by
Ernani Aguiar.
Long time collaborators, The Muscat Brass, sang a suite of British folk songs by Gustav Holst, followed by the Irish folk song Carrickfergus and the Shepherd’s Song from France. To finish, they delighted the audience with a selection of Disney favourites arranged by Goff Richards.
The grand finale saw The Muscat Singers accompanied by The Muscat Brass in a rendition of And All That Jazz, from the musical Chicago.
