Muscat: A sentence mandating imprisonment for a period of one year and a fine of OMR 500 has been handed to two citizens for violating public morals.
A statement issued online by Public Prosecution said: "Yesterday on March 23, 2021, a court of first instance in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate (the Criminal Department) convicted citizens Mohammed bin Rashid bin Musallam and Hussein bin Salem bin Hamad of two misdemeanours of using information technology means in the production and publishing of content that would harm public morals and the misdemeanour of committing an act of indecency, because they filmed and posted video clips of them on social media platforms that included signs, phrases and action that violate public morals."
"They were sentenced to one year in prison, with a period of reserve detention and a fine of OMR 500, and the confiscation of phones used in committing the crime, with permission to publish the judgment,” the statement added.
